As we work alongside you to care for our patients and their loved ones, we are equally dedicated to supporting your well-being.


Spiritual Care is the only department at UCSF Health whose purpose includes emotional, existential and spiritual well-being for staff, faculty and learners.

We Are Here For You When

  • You or your team would like a supportive debriefing of a difficult experience
  • You or your team would like a Blessing of Hands (inclusive moment to appreciate your work), a Moment of Mindfulness, or a Time of Remembering to honor patients who have died
  • You are experiencing moral distress or have ethical or cultural concerns about patient care
  • A patient or loved one has emotional distress or is sharing strong emotions
  • A patient is dying or has died and you or the family could benefit from support
  • A patient has received a new diagnosis or there is a major change in plan of care
  • A goals of care meeting is taking place and the patient/family or interdisciplinary team could use support
  • There are cultural or religious factors impacting patient decision making
  • A patient is experiencing loneliness, isolation, or despair
  • A patient is having trouble coping with illness
  • A patient or family is seeking religious care

MID-DAY MINDFULNESS

Join us for Mid-Day Mindfulness: A Peaceful Pause – guided meditation – no experience necessary.
